Small but mighty, is what comes to mind when thinking of this winery. The George Winery is a small family business in Geisenheim, founded by the Wagenitz family in 1993. Jürgen Wagenitz and his wife Jutta (maiden name George) began cultivating their first vineyards after completing their studies. Since 2014 one of their three sons, Jens, has joined the team after completing his studies of viticulture and oenology at the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences.
The George Winery produces predominantly dry Riesling wines and a small amount of Pinot Noir on roughly two hectares across varying areas like the Berg Rottland, Bischofsberg and Drachenstein located in Rüdesheim am Rhein, as well as Mäuerchen and Mönchspfad in Geisenheim.
Cellar master, Jens Wagenitz, places great emphasis on optimal grape ripeness, selective hand harvesting and gentle processing of the grapes.
The wines are often aged in wood and develop in the air.
This is a young winery that is at the beginning of its development and we’re excited to see what more is to come from them.
